Filby in Bloom faced 2007 with optimism although it was be a real challenge to maintain the level of commitment and innovation. Our success over the past few years probably meant that the Judges were also be looking at our efforts with ever more critical eyes and our fellow competitors were trying even harder to beat us. Then there was the weather.

Despite winning another Gold Award in 2006, and a very nice trophy, we were, again, not put forward for the 2007 Britain in Bloom finals.

After all, as well as promoting community pride and involvement, Anglia in Bloom remains, primarily, a competition.

Anglia in Bloom 2007

Filby launched its 2007 Anglia in Bloom campaign on Wednesday 21 March 2007 with the planting of a number of trees along Ormesby Road, opposite the houses.

The trees are sponsored by residents, many in memory of loved ones.
'Our' local weather girl, Wendy Hurrell, was present to plant the trees

Filby's Theme for Anglia in Bloom 2007

When Filby launched its 2007 Anglia in Bloom campaign the theme for 2007 was also announced.

Particular displays were based around 'James Bond' and reflected this concept.

Filby in Bloom was joined by local car maker, Lotus Cars at Hethel, and a one eighteenth scale model Lotus Elize Type 49 limited edition, donated by Lotus, and signed by the designer, Russell Carr is to be offered to the highest bidder.

Anglia in Bloom Judging 2007

The Judges for 2007 visited on Monday 23rd July 2007 in the morning from 10 o'clock.

This represented a change of day but not the time of day for their inspection. Whilst it all seemed to go quite well we were not to know our fate until the results were announced at the big meeting in Ipswich on the 12th September.
Pictures taken on the day on will appear here.

Filby Wins Best Village 2007

Despite the best, or should it be worst, efforts of this year's British Summer, Filby again won the Best Village Award at the Anglia in Bloom Awards ceremony held in Ipswich on 12th September.

awards2007

The wet summer and lack of sun meant that much of the planting was behind at the time the village was judged and the achievement of a Silver Gilt award reflected the fact that we did not quite achieve the standard we hoped for.

The Village (301 to 1000 population) category is highly competitive and as everyone was similarly affected by the weather we were able to hang on to our title.

Other Nominations

We also had nominations in two other categories, for which certificates of merit were awarded.

The Pound was nominated for the Pentland Plants Award given for the best use of their plants, and Percy Hudson was nominated for the Roy Lacey Award given in recognition of his individual contribution to the In Bloom movement. Unfortunately both awards went elsewhere.
