Filby has achieved considerable success in the various 'in Bloom' competitions, especially since 1999.
This is due in large part to the active support of the whole village and a small team of volunteers.
Key to pulling together the individual efforts of the residents is the Saturday Team. A group of volunteers who meet together each Saturday morning throughout the year to perform the necessary tasks of planting, erecting displays, strimming and all the routing jobs that need attention.
Filby is not the easiest village to 'pull together' as it is linear, stretching along the old Norwich Road between Caister and Fleggburgh, rather than the traditional image of a village developed around a central feature such as a village green, pond or church or all three.
You can more about us and how Filby in Bloom operates by looking at our new leaflet for 2008 at: Filby 2008
And finally
Filby residents take the 30 m.p.h. speed limit through the village very seriously.
Some of us know of folk who have been hurt by vehicles speeding in the village, others have had near misses. I well remember the night a speeding car smashed its way across our front lawn and ended up on its roof next door.
The signs at either end of the village are reinforced by speed warning illuminated signs a little further on and now by speed aware illuminated "Slow Down" signs erected in the middle of the village.
Please be aware that speed cameras and radar operate here from time to time so you have plenty of warning. Besides if you are travelling too quickly how can you appreciate the planting?
