Filby won it's first award in 1991 and has achieved considerable success in the various competitions, especially since 1999.
This cannot be put down to good luck or to employing a team of professional gardeners but to the continuing dedication and work of a small team of volunteers and the ongoing support of the whole village. Without the participation of all the residents it would not be possible to achieve any success, no matter how minor a role an individual might think he or she plays. A neglected garden or a lack of attention to detail would cost points which can make the difference between winning and being a runner up.
